Samsung and Sprint have announced the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch will be available on September 16th for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Sprint's version of the Galaxy S II differs from T-Mobile and AT&T both in having a mouthful of a name and in adding a true 4G WiMAX radio. Specs on Sprint's Galaxy S II include a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus WVGA display, Samsung's own Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel rear camera with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, an 1800 mAh battery, and 16GB of onboard memory. Samsung will also offer an HDTV adapter and dock for those looking to get HD content from the phone to their televisions.

On the software side, it's launching with Android 2.3 covered over with the TouchWiz UI, plenty of Sprint-specific apps, and mobile hotspot for up to eight devices. Samsung is also loading in its own Media Hub service for accessing movie and TV content, Kies Air for syncing to the desktop over WiFi, and Swype.

Sprint has an info page up for the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch now. The carrier says it will be offering preorders via a $50 gift card purchase soon.

So I just spent a bit of time with Sprint's Galaxy S II (er, the Sprint Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch!), and I have to say I like it a bit better than AT&T's version. It feels weightier in hand -- not too weighty, though -- and the rounder edges are a nice touch. My hesitation with all these phones (and even the Infuse 4G) has been the plastic backs, but after seeing one of them bent in half without leaving so much as a blemish, I'm pretty impressed with the durability. Other than that, the phone's really the Galaxy S II we've seen overseas -- the 1.2GHz dual-core processor seems to provide more than enough power to navigate TouchWiz and stream along some of the preloaded HD clips. Stay tuned for a full review closer to launch.
