RED Epic camera goes flying in German effect studio's OM-Copter (video)
The state-of-the-art 5K RED Epic camera is already being used to shoot upcoming films like Avatar 2 and The Hobbit, but we can only imagine the greater possibilities offered by pairing it with this custom octocopter drone built by Berlin's OMStudios. While it may not be the first helicopter / RED hybrid, the remote-controlled rig is impressive nevertheless: it's capable of taking the RED Epic 150 meters (nearly 500 feet) in the air, and obviously, the drone is more flexible and cost-effective than a crane or helicopter. There's always the danger of wrecking expensive equipment due to motor failure, but we're sure that wouldn't deter the likes of James Cameron and Peter Jackson. We just hope cinematographers don't lose any amazing shots by using the OM-Copter. Video after the break.
