Dell tablets get Department of Defense approval
Android's got a bit of a reputation as the wild west of mobile devices, but Dell's been hard at work locking it down — the Dell Mobile Security for Android platform has been okayed by the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as secure enough for military use. The system was developed in conjunction with Good Technologies, and by using 192-bit encryption on data, it allows secure access to email, documents and sandboxed browsers and apps. The platform was trialled and approved on the Streak 7 tablet, and Dell's claiming it will push the software out to military locations on next year's Android tablets and as a separate software package for security-conscious IT departments.
