The picture even has “gloss” just like the apple product shots! (the white reflection looking thing on the top right of the screen.) I think I remember reading guidelines on pre rendered gloss somewhere.. If only I had the link..
To be fair, I like the location of the USB / ESATA / FWire plugs. The black casing / screen backing is hawt and the kensington port has a sensible amount of spacing from the closest slots.
I wonder if the red feature on the keyboard bezel might be distracting. Would blue or green have been a better choice? Numeric keypads are a crowd pleaser and its nice to see that track pad leaning more to the left on a device from an otherwise conservative manufacturer.
Good point. Its center of the keyboard proper. I imagine a little more to the right and one might ghost click when typing. I don’t advocate encouraging left handers. :-)
@ godofbuscuits “Do they hire the same people that Chinese companies hire to make iPhone ripoffs?” Nah – they hire the ones the Chinese companies wouldn’t take!
Damn that thing’s ugly – I count 18 cutouts on the sides (counting each speaker grille as one).
And what’s with the power button? It looks like it was deliberately designed to break up the clean lines of the Macbook Pro unibody case and remind us it’s an HP. Talk about taking a great design and totally screwing it up!
As always, just like when I stopped using Apple computers in the 90’s, all the MacZombies never wonder or consider all the PC software, capabilities and functions they will never have access to because of their blind infatuation for anything Apple makes and copies. It didn’t take me 20 years to figure out that Macs are cleverly marketed toys for most people who don’t regularly use them to do real work. Ironically, Apple’s “Big Brother” commercial back in 1984 is a present day parody of them - MacZombies. If only they knew the actual cheap material production costs of Macs, versus the exorbitant prices they pay to own and use them. Suckers!

This looks excellent.

And can’t you see they put the optical drive on the LEFT instead of the RIGHT??? Totally different product, OBVIOUSLY.

I’m embarrassed FOR HP’s “designers”.
Do they hire the same people that Chinese companies hire to make iPhone ripoffs?

We’re missing a view of the laptops closed, from the side, so we can see how thick and fat they might be. Thanks.

Red is a good choice, I think.

If you’re going to offset the trackpad, why put it on the left? Aren’t most people right-handed?

Ah – now I see it all… it’s not the power Button, it’s the BeatsAudio (volume?) button. Still pig-ugly though!

Of course it’s “Pig-ugly” to you. You’re a mac owner! Just defending your camp.

Cut them some slack. For someone who tolerates Windows, this thing probably looks dead sexy.

Thanks, Verge, for letting me know that HP found my stolen MacBook Pro.
How much vacation time do HP’s product designers get anyway?

Is it metal or plastic -or a mixture of the two?

It’s all metal, my friend.

So when you buy one where abouts on the case do they stick the Intel and Windows stickers?
Posted on Nov 17, 2011 | 4:42 AM EST reply Recommend (1) Flag actions
They don’t put those dumb stickers on the machine, but there is some text on the bottom of the laptop.
