What is the best designed cell phone in your book? Here's mine, and its not even out yet.
I haven't been in the cellphone game for a long time, the first phone I followed, and knew a bit about was the RAZR, so you probably can guess my age, meaning I never cared about the small phone era of 1998 to 2001, where feature phones leveled out in terms of innovation, and it was all about the thinnest, smallest, flashiest phones, Nokia specifically liked participating in this race to the small. But with size, and sparkly finish says nothing about design, in fact, it covers up design, tries to hide it in gimmicks, and that is specifically why the RAZR was the first phone I cared about, that grabbed my attention and made me realize a lot of philosophy can be put into a device. Obviously there has been some truly remarkable designs pre smartphone, but none had to hook to get me interested. But my favorite designed phone is not the RAZR 2004, or even the new DROID RAZR, it's a phone with a completely different approach.
I think the best looking phone ever is the Lumia 800. It takes simplicity in a way that apple would be smacking their thighs, and one look makes me say, "why didn't I think of that?" , every curve leads into the next, and it's a natural border around the screen, it draws you into what important, all the while does not complicate anything, but all at the same time is tall, and attention grabbing in stature. Putting this next to any iPhone shows all the little, odd things iPhone has on it's exterior, the short, stubby build, the edge of the 4 and 4s look aggressive, but the small round home key looks toyish and bubbly, it feels disjointed, but the lumia seems like it was Windows phone 7 imagined in a physical world, it is a massive accomplishment at Nokia. So, what phone looks better than all others for you?
