The BlackBerry PlayBook's poor sales have resulted in some big discounts this holiday season, but the fact remains that it still has some decent hardware. Thanks to a CrackBerry Forums user, the 7-inch tablet flexed its muscle by running a ported version of DOSBox, allowing the PlayBook to boot Windows 3.11 and run timeless classics like Wolfenstein 3D and Prince of Persia. Download the port to try for yourself at the source link below, and don't miss the video of DOSBox in action.

For playbook owners DOS is an upgrade.

The Playbook or Windows 3.1?

The irony is that it’s probably even more functional than the Playbook OS itself.

Almost makes the $200 playbook worth it….

Says alot about your OS when people are porting a nearly 20 year old OS

What people? People who actually want to use the Tablet, or people who’s number one hobby and sole purpose in life is… ‘porting’?

it’s just a dosbox port.
if you got sdl, you got dosbox. simple as that.

There are plenty of great games now on the PlayBook. While I can’t dispute the device hasn’t sold well, the knock that it doesn’t have some really good apps on it, is just bunk.

I partially agree. The playbook does have a lot of good apps, but it is also missing some fairly critical apps. That being said, this is pretty cool.

I’d prefer this for a jailbroken iPad. Time to check Cydia.

It’s called DOSpad. It runs like a dream. Unfortunately, Litchie’s (dev) Cydia repo has been down for a while, so you have to download the .deb file and install that yourself. Totally worth it though.

Wow, nearly every comment is a troll. We can do better vergers (or is it vergins or maybe verge… readers). And come on, where are the yo dawgs?!!

I think people settled on Vergins, and I think you mistake the difference between trolling and mocking. Besides, with the playbook RIM trolled their customers.

Oh yeah, something else MS should be sued for. Gah. My eyes.

Amazing to think that 20 years ago the most popular and talked about OS was just a load of folders containing static icons which launched apps that didn’t talk to each other. Thank god for progress and Apple.

Does anyone have a massive nostalgia when that lion king game loads? My god, I miss my childhood.

Yup, I played that game on SNES back in the day.

Makes you kinda reconsider a Playbook at the reported future $200 price, huh?!?

Dang haters…. I don’t know if they’ve just never used a PlayBook before or what, but I love it and everyone that I show it to is really impressed. Not sure if I’ll use this, but those games bring back some memories.

I’d like to see Geos Ensemble instead of Windows 3.x running on that screen.

RIM is in crack if they wrote this. Or is this a third party?
