If you blinked, you missed it. A few weeks ago, Google released an official, native Gmail app for iPhone and iPad, only to pull it just one hour later due to a nasty notification bug. Today, it makes its return to the App Store with working notifications. Stay tuned as we track the story right here!

Gmail for iOS updated with signatures, nested labels, and scribbles
Google's somewhat poorly-received Gmail app for iOS has gotten a modest update today with a number of pedestrian (but important) improvements like custom signature support, nested labels, and a new notification sound that the company says will help users better distinguish when they've got an email rolling in. The neatest feature, though, would have to be the inclusion of scribbles — you can open a blank canvas, draw with a handful of simple tools, and attach the image to your outgoing email.
Read Article >Still missing are some big items like multiple account support and more thorough notification integration, but the Gmail team says that it's "continuing to work" on those. The download should be available now.

Gmail iOS app returns to the App Store
Read Article >To give it a try yourself, you should make sure to uninstall or log out of the earlier Gmail app — that's a prerequisite for getting the updated version 1.0.2 to work. Also required is an iOS 4+ device, which actually covers most of the recent generation iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. For the download link and a full list of Gmail app features, check out the sources below.

Gmail for iOS hands-on
Read Article >For two hours this afternoon, if you were quick on the draw you could download the official Gmail app for iOS. Of course, if you didn't get to install the app you really didn't miss much. Google pulled the app because of "a bug with notifications," but there's plenty about the app that isn't working properly. The app is basically just the Gmail web app with a wrapper around it and offline functionality, though it does have some nice tweaks like a left-side drawer that slides out to show labels and an easy way to attach photos from your camera roll. Of course, the bugs handily outnumber the features — you can't save an attachment from the app itself, it's often unresponsive, and the app doesn't yet index your device's address book. The app is native for iPad and iPhone / iPod touch, and we're hoping the two hours of terrible feedback the app got will help Google get the re-release right. (That, or we'll just wait for Sparrow's iOS app.)

Gmail pulls iOS app over notification bug
Read Article >Well, that was fast. Just a few hours after releasing its long-awaited Gmail for iOS, Google announced on Twitter that it is pulling the app over a notification bug. Many users spotted a "no valid 'aps-environment' error entitlement" on first launch, and it appears the problem was bad enough to get the app pulled entirely from the App Store.

Gmail app for iPhone and iPad now available
In October, MG Siegler reported that Google was developing a native Gmail app, and it turns out the rumors are true. After years of waiting, Gmail is finally available from the iOS App Store for the iPhone and iPad, offering the full label, starring, and archiving experience that's been such a hit on Android. Yes, it's got push notifications, threaded conversations, photo upload capability, full account search, Priority Inbox, searching, and integration with both your device's address book and your Google contacts. The iPad brings split screen view, though it looks like Google used the same pane view that the new Facebook iPhone app employs to access the navigation under the main message list. Unfortunately, we're not seeing multiple account support. We'll be back soon with hands on…
