You have to give Yamaha points for originality, because the PDX-11 isn't like anything else on the market. Built like a rocketship's thruster, the PDX-11 is an iPod / iPhone dock that can also hook into other products via a 3.5mm audio jack. There's definitely portability in mind, as it has a "roll bar" carrying handle and can run off either AC power or six AA batteries — which are meant to last it for eight hours of playback. The speaker itself is comprised of a 4-inch cone woofer and a 1.375-inch tweeter. The PDX-11 comes in a multitude of rugged colors for $99.95, which is a good price for a tough and portable audio dock — as long as it sounds okay.
