You saw Google's redesigned look for YouTube a week ago, now how about giving it a try? The new YouTube is being rolled out in stages, and for those who haven't yet received access to it, Moritz Tolxdorff over on Google+ and Lawls in our own forums have detailed a relatively painless way to speed things up. When you're on the website, you need to open up your browser's developer tools — Ctrl / Cmd + Shift + K in Firefox; Ctrl + Shift + J (Win) or Cmd + Alt + J (Mac) for Chrome — and punch in the following string of code:
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU";
Close the console, reload the site, and enjoy the much more streamlined layout of Google's video storehouse. Trust us, that code won't melt down your computer, we tried it out ourselves and it works exactly as promised.

Any way of getting it working on safari? It keeps loading the old one for me

Right click (or CTRL+click) and click “Inspect Element”, then go over to the console tab and copy paste in the line of code. Works like a charm.

why would anybody actually use safari? :-|
I always thought people who use safari are the same people who use internet explorer

Have you ever used Safari? On OSX at least, it is very good. Just as quick as Chrome and Firefox, it just isn’t as well featured.
I don’t see what’s wrong with it. I prefer chrome, but I’d use safari over Firefox.

@Qassim’s which begs the question he was asking again; if it doesnt have a lot of features and is just as fast as firefox and chrome, why not use the ones with more features? :P

Safari easily trumps Firefox on Mac and has certain bits of polish and “feel” that make it competitive with Chrome. But yea, I prefer Chrome too.
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 5:36 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
You said it yourself, Safari isn’t as well-featured. No reason to use something that isn’t the best, especially when the best is free!
Posted on Nov 28, 2011 | 4:20 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Well thats a massive generalisation you have made there. I use Chrome for uni (blackboard lms system) For everything else I prefer to use Safari as I just like the feel of it.

Safari is fantastic on OSX. It’s as powerful and as fast as Chrome. It’s native, so updates with the operating system and is webkit, so supports the (majority of) latest HTML5/CSS3 implementations.
By asking "why would anybody actually use safari?" you might as well ask "why would anybody actually use Chrome?"
I’m a website designer and front-end developer, the Developer tools etc in Safari are brilliant, on-par with Chrome. For me, Chrome and Safari are on a level playing field.

Plus, on Lion the zoom gestures are really, really awesome!
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 6:53 AM EST reply Recommend (4) Flag actions
Also, Safari is the only browser that lets you move as many/few UI elements from the toolbar as you like. A minimalist dream!
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 7:05 AM EST reply Recommend (2) Flag actions
Nope, firefox lets you do this too. Firefox can be customized more than any of the other browsers with the exception of maybe Opera.
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 11:00 AM EST reply Recommend (1) Flag actions
Incorrect. Safari’s extension support allow for COMPLETE customization of the area above the content. If you’re a developer, you know what I’m talking about. There are extensions to completely remove it. FUllscreen browsing is awesome.

Yup safari is so good it can’t even enable the Youtube preview
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 1:00 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Your logic (assuming you were being sarcastic): Safari is bad because Google has yet to create a version of YouTube for it?
Here’s why Safari can’t get it: It initially just worked on Chrome, then they added Firefox support. Soon they’ll add Safari support and then Opera and IE support. Then they’ll publicly release it.
Just do the cookie tweak shown above, even if you’re on Safari and as soon as they update it for your browser, it will detect the new cookie and load the new version.
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 9:17 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Safari gives you more battery life than Chrome on a Mac. Plus its zooming abilities are fantastic.

Safari on OS X is awesome. Of course, if you use a Windows computer it’s awful because there’s no gesture support. If you’ve got Lion and you’re running Safari fullscreen and using gestures to go between tabs and go back and forth. It’s soooo smooth you just get into this “zone”. Safari 5.1.x on OS X Lion is a freakin’ dream.
On the topic. Internet Explorer is a browser of its own… off on some distant planet thinking “how come only old people and chinese people use me?”
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 9:13 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Hey, that’s a bit unfair… I’m a chinese malaysian, and I sure as hell don’t use IE. Chrome/Chromium-based browser(s) for me only. But yeah, I get your point-the front part about old people may be true.
Posted on Nov 23, 2011 | 2:06 AM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
I thought I was the only one who still uses Safari. We use it because it integrates better with OS X. I don’t know what it is about Google Chrome but I just prefer Safari…

Been using the new Layout for a few days; not perfect, but is much of an improvement.
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 4:26 AM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Agreed. Youtube needs to get rid of all the ugly blue and start adding more red and white. I’m glad Google has embraced Beige and Noise, though. Two extremely under-rated design elements in the modern web. I like where high profile web design is heading though. More matte icons and buttons, better matched backgrounds, and a few sites are even employing embroidered floral patterns. It’s all so 1920’s svelte, and it feels great.
Can’t wait for Apple to follow suit. The web has never looked uglier than when all the websites emulated Apple for SJ’s memorial. Pure white and gray buttons doesn’t transition well to blogs without any additive colorful graphics.

This should work in Safari’s Web Inspector as well. The instructions should be clarified for most, as it’s not entirely obvious. You first need to go into Console > paste in the code > hit enter > close console > reload page.

I like the aesthetic alot but I’m not 100% sure about the homepage layout.
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 4:27 AM EST reply Recommend (1) Flag actions
I copied this quote from Step 3 of the new YouTube orientation guide:
“Browse Categories on the left. Try to find at least 3 new Channels that interest you and click Subscribe to add them to your homepage.”
It seems kinda weird that YouTube is looking for at least 3 new subscriptions from everyone. That also pops up again in step 4, you can return to the home page after adding 3 new subscriptions.

In IE, press F12 and select “Console” tab. I think it works from version 8

The code snippet didn’t work for me in the Safari console, but after deleting all youtube-Cookies I can now see the new look in Safari too ;) It’s not really an improvement, though. What was white is now light gray.

Just wondering – how is this any different than going to YT cosmicpanda page (http://www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda) and enabling it?
Posted on Nov 21, 2011 | 7:49 AM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Cosmic Panda is a new style for viewing video’s, other peoples channels and playing playlists. This new style is supposed to work in unison eventually with cosmic to style your homepage/“Dashboard” as a hub for all your subscription news, a link-in to Facebook and Google+ etc..
Hope this helps!

Just reminder to others, btw, remember to enable your menu bar, or you will wondering where the hell that tools button is!
Interestingly, I tried the Opera console (Right Click>InspectElement>Console) but typing the command given by The Verge didn’t work, maybe you need to parse it in some other way or something…

If it`s for Windows just press
CTRL + SHIFT + J
Open the Console (The second tab on the bottom left)
And then just copy and paste the code into the console and press enter!
document.cookie=“VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU”;

Anyone help me out please, I dont want to use another browser. Anyone knows a fix for Safari??
