Torrenting, streaming and the future of Media

UK broadband provider BT is facing pressure from British Phonographic Industry to block access to websites such as The Pirate Bay including the possibility of a High Court Judgement making them legally obligated to do so (as they recently did with Newzbin 2).

If we assume that services like Spotify are currently the only viable option for the music industry to try and stave off the illegal sites, do the Film industry and US/UK Networks have to take a more global approach to streaming to avoid the inevitable hydra-effect of shutting down one website at a time? Or is there an alternative?

Note - I don't want suggestions of alternative sites. Also, if this isn't posted in the right place, apologies, it was the closest forum I could think of.
