Portal Christmas tree: now you're thinking with holiday cheer
Wow. We've seen some elaborate Christmas trees this year — some made entirely from books or from phones — but what we love about this Portal homage is its outside-the-box thinking. The top third of an artificial tree was hung to the ceiling, while the bottom two-thirds are stuck upside down into the floor. Blue and red lights rope lights were used (because orange lights couldn't be found) for the portal outline; black construction paper and garland helped to hide any gaps and sell the illusion. Scotch tape is the surprisingly effective adhesive of choice.
Something tells us this idea will be stolen gracefully borrowed by more than a few people next year. Check out io9 for more pictures and the full story (care of creators Ryan Kelly and his coworkers — check out the one shot of one friend's hand going through the tree portal), while Reddit has the ever-insightful commentary.
