Roboto - Google's Metro?
On November 14th, 2006, Microsoft released the Zune portable media player. Coming along with was the Metro GUI, at a time when Microsoft was about to release the long-awaited Windows Vista, Aero was the dominant Microsoft GUI. Going back in time, I highly doubt that either J Allard or Joe Belfiore had any idea what Metro could and would become. Metro is arguably the most original GUI to hit the mainstream recently and is now being baked into almost everything Microsoft does.

Now my question to you kind folks is, do you think that Roboto, the new font for Android Ice Cream Sandwich, might begin a similar renaissance within Google. In the last year, we have seen Google become very interested in the look and visual appeal of their services. If Roboto sees enough success with ICS, do you folks think that we will begin to see it in GMail, G+, etc.? I personally would love to see it used throughout Google and I think that this much work into the aesthetics of Android is an attempt to make corporations like Motorola, Samsung, and HTC consider using stock Android instead of just your Motoblur, Touchwiz, or Sense. I believe that Google wants the average Joe to be able to look at an Android device or an online Google service and say "that must be by Google," much like most people can spot an iDevice when they see one. Thoughts? Opinions?
