Tranquil PC MMC-12 now available for about $1,000
The Tranquil PC MMC-12 home media center we looked at just a few days ago is now available from the company's online store for £649 ($1,006) — Tranquil says that's £100 off the normal price and EU customers have to pay an extra £129.80 VAT. It's not cheap, but you get a very pretty and silent stand-alone media center running Windows 7 Home Premium on a 2.5GHz Intel Core i3 CPU with 4GB of RAM. The back panel has all the ports you need for an HTPC, including Ethernet, eSATA, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, DVI, and mini optical SPDIF. Unfortunately, you'll have to get your own hard drive. If you'd rather not fiddle with adding storage, you can get the 1TB option with a 2.7GHz Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a Blu-ray drive for £995 ($1,543) before VAT. Looking good has its sacrifices.
