Now that Netflix has launched in UK and Ireland, Roku has announced its first set-top boxes for release across the pond. The Roku LT and Roku XS are expected to ship at the end of January through Amazon.co.uk for £49.99 and £99.99, respectively — a pre-order page is live for LT, while the XS' page is currently pointing to a third-party vendor with a slightly higher-than-suggested retail price. In addition to Netflix, the company promises more than 40 content channels including MLB.TV, Facebook, Flickr, WSJ, FoxNews.com, and Crackle (UK only). Plus Angry Birds for the premium model. Additional retailers will be announced later.

If they have iPlayer and 4oD etc I am so in! Although I am also pretty tempted by a google tv box, but I have a feeling they will be much more expensive.

Yes, yes very good. But nothing here that you can’t get on a half decent Blu-ray player a Smart TV or even an Apple TV.
Oh wait purple buttons… Now I get it…. Take my money please!

Seems nice. But Airplay keeps me with the Apple TV. It just works.

As a resident of the UK I haven’t paid much attention to Roku. What’s the user interface like? That’s the make or break for me. Currently using a WD TV Live.

Very box art based. If you know what I mean. Like Media Center.

The UK streaming scene is still something of a mess, so much so I can’t see dedicated boxes like this selling all that well. We’re fairly well covered on free to air TV streaming, particularly BBC stuff of course through iPlayer. Other stuff though… not so much. Sky Go offers only a smattering of content and at high prices and with brutally low picture quality. LoveFilm is a complete train wreck, and NetFlix have a microscopic content line-up here so far.
It will get better… but it may take quite some time to do so.

What the hell? We have free access to 4 major broadcasters on demand from practically any device we choose. Its only when you want payTV (content) that things get messy.
That can be solved by a virtual trip to Amazon’s DVD section.
