Apple will be announcing Q1 2012 earnings today at 2PM PST.

I was hoping we could have some fun playing armchair analyst of how record-breaking their report will be.
Last quarter that ended September 25, 2011 here is how their results looked:
Overall:
Revenues: $28.27 billion
Profits: $6.62 billion
Products year over year:
iPhones: 17.07 million units sold up 21%
iPads: 11.12 million units sold up 166%
iPods: 6.62 million units sold down 27%
Macs: 4.89 million units sold up 26%
I personally see a big quarter for Apple possibly a 40 billion dollar quarter. This is due Q1 being the first quarter with the iPhone 4S, and it being the first time the iPhone 4 and 4S will be available on the big three US carriers.
I think many of the independent analysts have it right over the big time analysts. Independent analysts say:
Revenue 43.14 , iPhones 33.35, iPod 14.43, Macs 5.24, iPad 14.63
Apple's own guidance says expect about $37 billion in guidance however Apple is usually really conservative with their estimates.
Industry Analysts are estimating $39 billion in revenues, 30 million iPhones, 13.62 million iPads and 5.09 million Macs. I think these guys are seriously underestimating how monster of a quarter this is.

So how well do you guys think Apple will do?

I think they’ll be a hair under the “independent” analysts.
The iPad number is going to be critical. Moreso than the iPhone number I think. If it is big, something like 17-18m, it demonstrates the tablet market is real and there’s a sky is the limit type feeling with the stock. That 17-18m could grow to 30 to 50 to 100 per quarter in the next few years.
Near term, the guidance is going to be critical. If anything, I wish I had knowledge of the guidance as it would tell me if I needed to sell or buy yesterday. ;)

Sorry but there aren’t enough rare earth metals to support 100 million tablets per quarter along with all the other electronics.

I’m not worried… because electronics will be made of people in the future!

Wow, that 6.5m Macs was aggressive. 18m iPods too.

Yeah, but both iPhones and iPads were low, and actual profit was 60% higher, too.

What a pity the iPhone 4S is such a dismal failure.
