What do you want Google to do next with Android?
What do you want Google to do next with Android? I have a few things I would like to see, both in regards to the core OS and their apps.
- Notification Shade Widget API - This just seems like such an obvious evolution to the notification shade after being in various skins and ROMS, I was kind of surprised this wasn't included in Ice Cream Sandwich. This would be great for applications like toggling various settings, but I'm sure developers could come up with some crazy ideas if this was open.
- Skinning API - I doubt this will ever happen, and I know this has been discussed before, but if Google could provide an API robust enough for OEMs to be able to do all the modifications to stock Android that they want (or at least 80% of it). This would hopefully improve OS update speed and maybe finally provide the option to toggle skins/stock.
- Great Google Docs Native editing - We did finally get an official Google Docs app, but it's currently just a wrapper for the mobile web app when a document is actually opened. I'm sure Google has someone working on this, I just can't believe it's taking this long.
- Require Stock Android apps on devices that have the Android Market - I haven't had to deal with this issue personally since I've been sticking with stock devices (G1, Nexus One, G2) but I've heard how OEM replacements for phone/contact/email apps can be annoying. To continue with the platform consistency they are taking more seriously starting with Ice Cream Sandwich, I think Google should require all of these stock apps to be installed if the device is to get the Android Market. I do think the OEMs should still be able to make their versions the default if they want, but I think the user should have the choice to switch to stock apps. (As an alternative, Google could put all of the stock apps in the Android Market).
What do you think Google should do next?
