LG 55-inch OLED TV to roll out 'in second half of 2012'
A report claiming LG Display will start mass production of its large OLED panels in July prompted us reach out to LG for official comment, and we've learned that the new 55-inch OLED TVs "will start rolling out sometime in the second half of 2012." The picture is complicated by the fact that LG Display and LG proper are separate entities, and production at one doesn't necessarily dictate the timing of release from the other — as such, LG says it's "really difficult to say exactly when" the new TVs will appear on shelves. Still, when taken together, the earlier report and this new information about the second half of 2012 suggests that we'll be seeing massive OLED TVs on store shelves before the year is through.
