We first heard about the Galaxy Nexus coming to Sprint through a poorly-timed advertisement, but the carrier made the device official several days later. What we still don't know is when the phone will be launching, but things appear to be moving closer: Google has gone live with a sign-up page for those interested in picking up the latest Android flagship. The Galaxy Nexus will be part of Sprint's first wave of LTE devices, coming after the carrier decided to abandon further development of WiMAX phones altogether in its new 4G push. When we took a look at the Sprint variant at CES we found it to be nearly identical to the Verizon version we've come to love, with the same dimensions and gorgeous 4.65-inch screen — though Sprint's model will be making a break from Verizon by incorporating Google Wallet. There's still no word on an official release date, but Sprint has stated they expect their first LTE markets to go live in the middle of this year. If you're interested in the meantime, head on over to the page itself and sign up!

I wish they would use wimax as a backup in case lte wasn’t available instead of going to 3g. I feel like Sprint’s wimax network is just getting wasted now.

the lte radio already does enough damage to the battery, slamming another radio in there probably isn’t a great idea

I hope they fix the random reboot issue that we are being plagued with
Posted on Jan 29, 2012 | 1:53 AM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
As if Sprint’s WiMax is just some great expansive network… You want LTE, then a backup WiMax network, then a backup EVDO network? Cmon.
Its not worth it to get yet another radio added into the phone, just a waste of space and battery.

Honestly, at this point, Sprint’s 4G network is so limited, I’d almost rather get the Nexus with just a 3G radio and rely on wifi when available. That would help the battery out a lot. I love Sprint, because I really think they’re the only one actually competing on service (mostly because they have to), but their network is definitely in catch-up phase. If I were Sprint, I’d concentrate a big push on cool phones over the next year and just slowly roll out 4G in the background…and in the meantime, unlimited data for all!

I was waiting for the GNex until I decided that this option is loads better (Nexus w/ 3G + WiFI + occasional WiMax). Got a custom rom running ICS, and I’ve never been happier with a phone.

The Nexus S 4G is what I got. Almost forgot that both phones have Nexus in their names.

You guys won’t be disappointed. My GNex is hands down, far and away, the best phone I’ve ever used.

Mine would be if it wouldn’t randomly reboot every other day

They need to launch NS4G ICS damn it!

They’re too slow and I hate that green flash when you turn the screen off.

Yes, wtf is up with that?
this nexus line is starting to be fragmented too.
i dont really understand.. And rooting is an option but not for everyone. I tell friends who want to go android to take a nexus phone but then stuff like this happens. :-/

Would you prefer they push out the update before its ready? Just chill and wait for it. They’ll push it OTA when its all good to go.

Nexus One was the same way with 2.3
But don’t worry, the Nexus S will still get it before any other Android phone. =)

Carriers need to get on the same page when it comes to NFC. None of this proprietary crap. Lte would be the shiz if it worked for all carriers and not just for the network you were on.
Posted on Jan 28, 2012 | 11:17 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Ummm NFC is hardware… and you want LTE to work on all the carriers, come to canada all our carriers have LTE networks and interchangable devices
Posted on Jan 28, 2012 | 11:23 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Well NFC is a chip standard that has nothing to do with the carriers. You don’t want the carriers to be on the same page, you want them 100% not involved in your NFC payments. They need to get out of the way and let Google do their own thing with Google Wallet.

I swear if Sprint doesn’t release this by the end of March, I’m switching to Windows Phone or the iPhone on another carrier.

just switch now to a nexus with LTE ready on Verizon
Posted on Jan 28, 2012 | 11:32 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
Do it now while Amazon has it for $99, expect this to come out the same time as LTE which is this summer.

Nexus on sprint means nothing! This phone is probably the reason sprint and google are holding back the ics update on the nexus s. non sprint nexus s phones are on ics, another reason why I’m getting either an iPhone or a windows phone…. Sick of fragmentation
Posted on Jan 29, 2012 | 12:36 AM EST reply Recommend (1) Flag actions
Im sick of ppl using the word fragmentation every time they dont like something. There now we are even. You do realize Sprint’s Nexus had 4G, and was the only CDMA version of the phone. Its different from the rest, it’ll have the update soon enough, and still way before any other phone. Id have rather had the 4G in the Nexus and wait an extra month for software but thats just me. Christ a bunch of babies.

i did think that sprint’s Nexus would have gotten ics by now too… especially since they had officially partnered with google wallet and all… :-(

Brian, there’s a typo on the first line. You probably meant to write “heard” instead of “head”.

Pretty disappointing that only CDMA carriers in the US are getting this phone..

The GSM version works on att&t and t-mobile with 3G bands.
Posted on Jan 29, 2012 | 9:47 AM EST via mobile reply Recommend Flag actions
Not too many people are gonna shell out 650+ for it. They’d rather it be sold through a carrier or BB like the Nexus S was.
Posted on Jan 29, 2012 | 2:25 PM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
If you want it you can have it. Yes it’ll cost you $600 but the option is there. The same is true for people buying AT&T phones off-contract but directly from AT&T.
And there are the additional benefits of having an unlocked device also.

Really hate to be the grammar Nazi here, but come on man typos the first sentence? You guys do proofread right? You’re going to want to change “head” to “heard.”

Are you serious America?! Why does the US has the worst carriers in the world?? I will not brag, I will just tell you how it should be in every country: Here is Sweden all our carriers has the device in stock the first day with 4g if you want! And because our 4g speeds are real, and not 3g+ speeds as in the us, we can actually surf at speeds up to 40mbit/s.
Write this down America, or your country will be even more bankrupt than it is today!

Verizon, AT&T, and now Sprint all have LTE as well. Their speeds are just as fast…
Cool story though, bro.

seeing that this device is essentially ready for market (especially being a google device with even less crapware that verizon’s), I think t should release it as soon as possible, and temporarily suspend the $10 “high speed data” fee until the network is actually ready in the customers area. It would, until then, be a 3G phone which frankly most customers at this point probably wouldn’t mind that much. MWC is less than a month away, if sprint waits too long, interest in this device may start to wane despite how awesome it may be. What say you Sprint?
Posted on Jan 29, 2012 | 8:58 AM EST reply Recommend Flag actions
The $10 fee is no longer a 4g fee. It’s simply a data fee. The 4g was the excuse to raise the bill 10 bucks and after a while the language changed. Sneaky.

I really wish this thing had a better camera. That’s the only thing holding me back from buying one. I’m really tempted to just buy a GSII because of the far superior camera.

I was initially thinking the same thing… but, the truth is, I NEVER print pics I take with my current phone (Nexus S)… it stays digital, so, if you’re not going to be printing larger then 8×10′s, the megapixels don’t matter as much… (*but I would like for it to have at least 8mp just because Samsung’s other premium phones do.)
