While hard drives for its computers have been affected by the floods in Thailand, Asus is still a powerhouse in the motherboard market. According to a Digitimes report, the company has just announced that its products make up 70 percent of the global market share for motherboards using the Intel X79 Express chipset. The X79 is a niche product, but the company's other motherboards made a strong showing as well, with Asus motherboards using the Intel Z68 and P67 chipsets apparently reaching 50 to 60 percent market share.

In total, the company sold 23.5 million motherboards in 2011, a number it hopes to increase to 25 million this year. Asus claims it will begin shipping the new Intel Ivy Bridge processors and 7 series chipsets (allegedly "Panther Point") in late February.
