Though Samsung already represents the 7-inch tablet class in the US with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus on T-Mobile, it's the Galaxy Tab 7.7 we've really been wanting — it's just hard to argue with a 1280 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display in a 7.9mm-thick shell. That dream is realized today on the news that Verizon is picking up an LTE-enabled version of the device, and amazingly, it's not even a tenth of a millimeter thicker than its non-LTE European cousin. It's got a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, Android 3.2 (no word yet on ICS upgrade plans), 3-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear and front cameras, and 16GB of storage; it also carries over the international model's unusual side-mounted infrared port to turn the tablet into a remote control for your home theater. To help facilitate that, Peel's Smart Remote app is included.

We briefly played with the new iteration of the Tab 7.7, and it's truly impossibly to distinguish from the model sold abroad apart from the Verizon and LTE logos on back (and, theoretically, the faster data performance when you're in good LTE coverage). Using the tablet next to the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note really puts things in perspective — Samsung's now covering a nearly seamless range of full-touch device sizes ranging from the low three-inch range up through the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Is there room for, say, a Tab 6.4?

There's no exact word on pricing or availability, but Samsung and Verizon say that the Tab 7.7 will be launching "in the coming weeks."
