Tom Hanks is bringing an original animated series named Electric City to Yahoo, reports All Things D. The show, co-produced by Hanks’s Playtone and Reliance Entertainment, and featuring Hanks's voice for one of the characters, will span 20 three- to five-minute episodes and start in Spring of 2012. Regarding the socially-conscious themes of Electric City, Erin McPherson, vice-president and head of original programming at Yahoo, said, "On the surface, the Electric City is utopia and under the surface, Electric City is secrets and heavy-handed state control." The show will mark Yahoo’s first foray into original scripted content.
