Why dont tablets come with full SD card slots instead of microsd slots

The majority of tablets are big enough to fit a regular SD card slot in them without changing the dimensions of the device so why has everybody jumped on the microsd band wagon. SD cards are usually cheaper, available in larger storage sizes and harder to lose or damage.
