Canada/CDMA/WIFI
Ok, So I am planning a quick trip to Toronto next week and I have a question about data usage. First, I am a US Verizon customer. Its my understanding I will have CDMA coverage in Toronto but id rather not pay $2 per MB. My question is that if I use the Wifi in my hotel, will I be able to send text messages and avoid the international rate? It would be assumed that I would have my phone on airport mode so that I am not connecting with the cellular network.
I know that when I went to Europe last a friend of mine was able to use his GSM iphone with the wifi and had no issues. I have just never done this with a CDMA device.
I know an app like Whatsapp would get around this problem as it just uses data but alas I am still on my old WinMo 6.5 device (hopefully getting a new phone first week of november.)
Let me know if I am on the right track or not.
