Windows 8 "Touch apps" vs "Desktop Apps"
It strikes me as I write this from an x86 version of windows 8 which I’ve been using on a tablet for nearly a year, that there is value in the desktop even for 10 inch, even 5-7 inch, I can imagine.
Surely the next evolution would be continue to produce desktop and touch versions side by side. Like Firefox and IE 10. The advantage to desktop mode being having more date/options on screen. There’s no technical reasons why MS couldn’t allow other companies to develop versions that could also have a "desktop mode" on the ARM based RT software.
I think there may be possible European lawsuits that may make this a reality. So I think it would be wise of Microsoft to allow this from the start. That way they can continue to evolve versions for each use case.
Similarly with Games. With proper x86/x64 versions being able to play the full spec, high res versions but then also a lower res version capable of running on a mobile pc/phone.
