Why so much negative PR?

Just expressing some genuine frustration over the amount of negative PR that is seeming to be pumped out by the media over the past few days.

Does anyone else feel like the fanboys are especially enraged, the media especially predisposed, and everything is just way more emotional this time around?

I've been running Windows 8 for a few weeks at this point and the strongest emotion I have is indifference. As a developer the new app store is interesting, and I've been considering developing Win8 apps. As a user the new start screen is a "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" kind of thing. It's different but isn't hard to use.

To me I guess I look at Windows 8 and it looks like a solid move into the tablet market from Microsoft, and I'd guess that it'll be successful. It's easy to use on a laptop, stable, and functional. It took maybe a day to get used to. What's the big deal?

I just don't understand why people seem to feel so, so strongly about this operating system. The media seems hell-bent on condemning it, and I'm suspicious that it's more because they love controversy more than anything else. An article titled "Microsoft launches another version of Windows, users slowly adopt as usual and it makes modest headway in establishing Microsoft in the tablet space" sure generates a heck of a lot less page views that "Microsoft's newest OS has a terrible UI" or "Windows 8 Sure to Fail".

Maybe we should all take a moment and tone it down. This feels like a soap opera sometimes.
