'StarCraft'-themed 'Risk' set begins shipping
RISK: Starcraft, a combination of the classic board game Risk and the cult real-time strategy (RTS) game StarCraft, caused a flurry of excitement when it was announced back in February — now, the set has finally begun shipping. Available for $49.95 from the Blizzard Store, the game offers six separate armies — two for each of the three StarCraft races of Protoss, Terran, and Zerg — while the board represents planets in the Koprulu Sector, the main setting for the franchise.
The game joins a noble tradition of Risk variants, including general revamps such as Castle Risk and Risk 2210 A.D. and branded versions themed around the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars universes. Interestingly, though, it's not actually the first Risk variant to be created from an RTS game, with Risk: Halo Wars having adapted the eponymous Microsoft spin-off in 2009.
