What does Windows 8 add to a desktop that Windows 7 didn't provide?

So I've been using Windows 8 for the last 2 days, and I'm just not seeing what Windows 8 provides to a desktop user that Windows 7 didn't. I keep reading about how I can do this or that Windows 7 feature by doing this or that on Windows 8, but I honestly am not seeing any must-have feature that I must have.

So, please direct me to the killer functionality that Windows 8 adds that Windows 7 didn't. I'm not looking for how to do features in Windows 8 that I did in Windows 7, but features that I COULDN'T do in Windows 7 that I can now do.

And honestly, I couldn't care less about the live tiles. The apps like the weather apps are sorta cool, but don't really provide any more additional functionality than just going to the browser.

Windows 7? I could understand, it provided a pretty big performance boost over Windows XP and provided some great interface tweaks. I just don't see the interface tweaks as better in Windows 8.... just different.

Note: This is as a desktop user, and for the most part, laptops as well; not tablets.
