What new tablet is worth getting?

Hey everyone!

So, I'm a broke college student, and I'm looking for a tablet that will save me from carrying my laptop to every college class with me.

My budget is ~$300, plus or minus a few bucks if it's worth it.

I have a basic list:

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" - I have Amazon Prime Student, and it's exactly $300.

The iPad mini - I'm typically not an Apple person, but this tablet intrigues me.

The Nexus 7 - I want a bigger screen, but this is a cheap and good tablet.

The rumored Nexus 10 - The screen specs look awesome, but 10 inches cuts down on the potability.

I was going to get a Surface if they weren't so expensive, but $500 is well above what I can pay for a tablet. A full sized iPad is out of the question for the same reason.

I'm in no way against a Windows 8 tablet if they come that cheap. I have Windows 8 on my laptop and I really enjoy it. My laptop doesn't have a touch screen though.

I'm just looking for input and suggestions from everyone. Other students, what do you use? Everyone else, I'll value all inputs. What do you guys/gals feel would work the best for me?
