Download This: Trackpad Gestures for Windows 8
I just migrated to Windows 8 a few weeks ago, and I was upset to find that my OEM mouse drivers didn't support two finger scrolling in Windows 8 (a feature that I used frequently in Windows 7). To circumvent this issue, I downloaded the latest generic Synaptics driver, and I got my two finger scrolling back. However, the driver was not optimized for my machine, and well, the experience was terrible.
I was so frustrated with the experience that I reinstalled the OEM drivers and put up with the useful but dreaded edge scrolling for a few days. After struggling with habitually annoying phantom scrolls that didn't work, I decided to try and find a way to get two finger scrolling with the OEM driver. Luckily, I came across TwoFingerScroll, and I was satisfied for a little while. This program allowed for two finger (vertical only) scrolling, and the use of my original driver.Note:
I did run into a "class not registered error" that didn't allow me to install the program originally. To get rid of that problem, I used ran the following lines as an administrator in CMD (this will only work for 64 bit machines):
This solved my problem, but the tweak only worked for vertical scrolling. Still hungering for better support, my search led me to this nifty program by Sebastian Müller (based off of the original program above). The cool part about this program was that it also had three finger swiping gestures for Window 8 baked in (along with support for horizontal scrolling). I had yet to find anything like this, and I had searched for something like it for a few weeks. This program doesn't look like it is very well known, but it's greatly improved my non touchscreen Windows 8 experience.
Anyway, I hope my frustration turns into your gain. Enjoy!
