Should I Renew My Grandfathered Zune Pass
So I have a one year Zune Pass that's been grandfathered in from the old song credit days. It's up for renewal in a couple weeks and I'm a little on edge about whether or not I should renew it. The key advantage with the older, more expensive plan was the 10 song credits per month. Assuming that ever song that you purchased was $1, you'd be keeping $100 worth of music and paying only $50 directly towards streaming. To me, that's a good deal. With the new 1 year Zune pass, you're paying $100 towards streaming.
Here is my concern. The Xbox Music app in Windows 8 has no mention of song credits whatsoever. There's no way to redeem them. As of right now, the only way to redeem them is to either install Zune, or use my Windows Phone. Chances are, Windows Phone will also lose the song credit functionality with the next update. And the Zune software has pretty much been stripped away over time. It's only a matter of time until Microsoft kills that off completely.
Now this is a worst case scenario. But does anyone else think that I'm taking a gamble with renewing my Pass. Or am I better off dropping down to the newer plan without any credits? Thanks!
