HTC Pays Apple $6-8 per device. What does it mean for Android?

For reference, HTC already pays Microsoft $5-10 per device. So now the total is $11-18 per device.

Now obviously these prices are more reasonable than the $30-$40 Apple demanded of Samsung.

What does this mean for Android? Will Apple ever sign such a deal with Google to cover stock android?

Apple has sued over slide to unlock and universal search mostly for Nexus devices. Those seem to be the patents licensed to HTC.

And techcrunch ran an article saying licensing fees would doom Android and make it totally unprofitable. How valid is this statement?

And considering that Apple has not yet sued the Nexus 7 but has sued the Galaxy Nexus which runs the same software, whom is Apple really targeting with these lawsuits? There seems to be little consistency.
