It looks like it's that time again when members of the Nexus family are left behind. Google's second phone from the program, the Samsung-made Nexus S, as well as the Motorola Xoom tablet, will not be upgraded to the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2. The news was announced by Android Open Source Project technical lead Jean-Baptiste Queru, who said that the two devices will be left on Android 4.1.2.

Curiously, both devices were quickly updated from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean back in late June. In fact, the phone and tablet received the update day and date with the Galaxy Nexus. It's not clear if there are significant changes behind the scenes that make it too difficult to update, or if it simply isn't worth the trouble. We've reached out to Google for more information behind the decision, and we'll update this post when we get more. It's a safe bet that the Nexus S will continue to receive plenty of attention from the developer community, but that doesn't bring too much comfort to those still holding onto the circa 2010 phone.
