Asus Nexus 7

Previously owned an iPad 2. Sold it before I purchased this. First off - I HATE iOS. Any version is just pure garbage. If designers (which I am one) weren't so blinded by their self-love and desire to be technologically "hip", they'd never have designed apps for iOS and Apple would never have that one advantage over every other mobile device. Apple products may have the overall best hardware, but what is really needed? Retina Display is the biggest joke ever. Can you tell the difference? Sure. Do you need to? ... Really? Why do you need retina display? To be more like real life so we can just live 100% of our lives in a device?

The Nexus 7 is not only extremely comparable to any Apple iPad (or Mini), but it's very affordable price tag makes it a knock-out. The only people buying Apple products from either A) the moment the Nexus 7 was released or B) the moment the iPad Mini was released - are people who are clinging to a fantasy. With a device so well built, so usable, and with such a great operating system like Jelly Bean - it's hard to imagine that people will just look beyond it and continue to think Apple is selling you the product they SHOULD have.

The exterior design is great. I feel no need to baby this or not allow any scratches or throw it in my bag and have to worry about breaking it. I didn't dare drop my precious iPad 2 or any of my iPhone/Pod/Touches. The Camera (which should only be facing - this isn't a camera to shoot pictures with) is the only real issue. It's not a bad camera. But it could be better - especially when there are so many great ones out there. But... compromise for the price easy. Everything else is great. Ecosystem will get better (already is great) and, say what you want, but Google is the backbone of the web. Maybe Play doesn't have every movie you ever wanted. Maybe Android apps are not super designer-y like iOS apps. But why would you be so shallow as to buy an app for it's looks? I've tried many iOS apps both in the past and even in the last couple weeks that have been recommended highly because of the UX. Great UX. Bad content. That's typical for designers.
