Modern animation lives in a yellow submarine
Our screens have been inundated with strange and funny animated features over the years, but Josh Weinstein — a former writer for The Simpsons and producer on Futurama — believes the success of the medium is indebted to 1968's Yellow Submarine. Weinstein argues in The Guardian that the visceral and trippy nature of the movie has deeply influenced modern-day animation not just through its comedy, but also through the design and artistic techniques used. Yellow Submarine may have been created on a tight budget, but the time and money constraints ultimately helped shape a movie that influenced the next generation of animators.
