Weird thought coming from a longtime Zune fan.

Something hit me not a couple days ago that made me realize the entire Microsoft brand feels more modern and cool, for a bunch of reasons, but one in particular.

I have been using a zune player since 2008 with the Zune 80, then moving onto the Zune HD in 2009, and of course nothing after that. I picked up an HTC Radar late last year because I loved the UI, and also knew I'd like the built in music app. I have been using the Zune desktop client even after not needing it for syncing my 8X, it's just a great standalone music player. Even then, with my tight appreciation for the zune brand, somehow I am relieved they completely got rid of the Zune name, no more players, no more desktop apps, and the store for zune apps is non-existant.

After years of defending the brand and name, I realized that the word 'Zune' actually sounds stupid, really stupid. It doesn't flow, it's barely catchy enough for haters to remember the name and make fun of it, and most of all, it rings the 'trying to be edgy' bells. Just thinking about the entire product line's name makes me sigh and wish Microsoft would come up with a more normal sounding brand, and Xbox _____ works so much better. I thought it'd be strange since I only know Xbox by the console name, but it seems it fits. If the rumors are true about the Xbox TV and Xbox Surface, I can totally see that working out in marketing, it sounds cool, without sounding edgy, teenager fake cool.

Anyone else glad the Zune name has gone away? Anyone still like the branding and wants it to stay?
