Lumia 710 camera frustration

I have a Lumia 710 and prefer tap-to-shoot (because there's barely any feedback when pressing the camera key). Tapping an area makes the camera expose for that area. Some of my shots shots are washed out or too dark as a result.

For example:

Both were taken on the same day. But they look totally different.

My Lumia 710 can take nice photos, but it requires a lot more effort compared to my old Samsung Focus. It also makes me apprehensive about the Lumia 920 camera - what happens if you tap on a dark patch in a bright area? Has anyone tried it?
