Intel HD 4000 performance with 8/16 GB of RAM

Does anyone have any experience with the HD 4000 paired with 8 GB of RAM? I was thinking about getting the quad core Mac mini w/ fusion drive and pair it with two monitors. I would probably have it running 16 GB of RAM, but I hear that allocated video memory jumps from 380 mb to 512 mb when you upgrade from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM respectively. Would this give the Mac mini enough oomf to out-perform the previous Mac mini with the discrete card? It's a secondary Mac for me to run VM's, occasional video work with Final Cut Pro, and to AirPlay mirror HD videos across the house to an Apple TV.

I'd like to get the new iMacs but time is running out for me. Any insights? I almost want to save a few bucks and get a mini from last year and put an ssd in it.
