Complaints are flooding in at the Google Voice help forums regarding major issues with the service's SMS functionality. Multiple users have reported that outbound text messages sent from the same account are displayed as originating from a random phone number to recipients — one totally different from their proper Google Voice number. Every new message sent seems to be generating a new number, which as you'd imagine is throwing conversations into disarray. Phone calls appear to be unaffected by the problem, but the SMS bug can be replicated both within the Google Voice app and on the service's website. We've reached out to Google for comment on the situation.
Update: A tweet from the official Google Voice Twitter account has confirmed the issue and says that messaging should now be functioning properly.
