Evernote looks to be righting some of the wrongs with its suite of applications: after giving its Mac app a total refresh, the team has now released version 5.0 of its iOS offering. The update introduces a complete redesign to the note-syncing app, (thankfully) tossing away the outdated, button-filled user interface of old. Gone is the iOS-standard black navigation bar, and in is a unique Evernote design scheme.

The primary changes come to Evernote's home screen on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The home screen is now occupied by five tabs, each leading to All Notes, Notebooks, Tags, Places, or Premium Features, and you can click on a tab to enter fullscreen. Instead of having back buttons built into the app, users must drag down on the tab header once in fullscreen to return to the home screen. Evernote has also added three quick access buttons to add notes right at the top of the home screen, and on iPad, the extra screen real estate is filled with a scrollable recent notes section.

The company says that it kept in mind that "everything needs to be one or two taps away," and it looks like it's worked out well in this redesign. Other than the changes to the primary controls and layout of the app, Evernote says that it has improved the Page Camera with more accurate auto crop, and there's a new unified shared notebook list that will show every notebook that your friends and colleagues have given you access to. Evernote 5.0 is available now for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and if you want to see the app in action, check the requisite perky product video below.
