What would happen to the PC market if Apple bought AMD and Intel.
I did some thinking yesterday. Apple could probably screw the entire PC sector just for kicks with the 120 billion they have in the bank and still have more than enough to run a successful business by either buying controlling interest Intel + AMD(51% of the stock)... or just buy the companies outright. Intels market cap is roughly 100 billion and AMD's market cap is a paltry 1.5 billion. That would leave no other choice but for OEMs to switch to ARM or Power architectures. ARM is not ready for desktop use while the Power architecture would make mobile devices out of the question. It would also give Apple complete control of the x64 ISA. Of course this hypothetical scenario would never happen, but its fun to think about.
What are your thoughts?
