The trifecta is complete. After Twitter and Google summarized what everyone has been tweeting about and searching for this year, Facebook has followed suit with its "Year in Review 2012." Like Google, the one-billion strong social network has broken down the most popular subjects into categories and countries, although there's no summary that covers the entire world. If you've spent much time on the internet this year the results won't be much of a surprise.

In the United States, the biggest event of the year on Facebook was the presidential election, followed by the Superbowl and the death of Whitney Houston, while the most check-ins came from Times Square, New York. The top three books are all from The Hunger Games series, and Instagram was the most talked-about technology topic. Facebook lists "TBH" as the most popular meme of the year, followed by "YOLO." You can check up on all of the statistics over at Facebook Stories, but we've included a summary of the US results in pictures below.

By visiting facebook.com/yearinreview, you can see a personalized list of what Facebook thinks were your top 20 moments of 2012. It's a nice touch, especially among the countless impersonal "best of 2012" lists flying around right now.
