Why are the new Google Apps on iOS so much nicer than on Android?

I personally believe that Google is trying too hard to conform to their Holo Design guidelines which restricts them from making beautiful apps. The apps on iOS look a lot cleaner and closer to Google Now in design language. Here are some examples:

Only in Google Search/Now do they both look good. But this is only in Android 4.1+

Do you guys think Google should try and replicate the iOS apps on Android or keep following Holo guidelines?
