I bought my Nexus 7 32GB from Staples after returning a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Nexus 7 is a clear improvement over the Galaxy Tab. That's not to say that the Galaxy Tab is a terribly tablet, but with ICS (4.2) software update out of the gate, I enjoy the performance much more. However, it's still an Android tablet, which means that it's good for little more than random apps, internet, and email. A good tablet it is, but now that I have a Surface, I'm underwhelmed by iPads and Android tablets when it comes to functionality. I'll hold on to it for a little longer, but I'm anticipating getting rid of my Nexus 7 in the next month or two. The display is both great and not so great. Good color vibrance, but barely visible in well-lit areas, especially sunlight. It's also prone to scratches. Within a week of purchasing, I had a light surface scratch on the glass just from leaving it in my car and carrying it in my pocket. My guess is keys or leaving it face-down too often open it up to damage. So if you do buy one, get a screen protector or be careful with it. It's probably the best 7" tablet to buy, especially with the price @ $249.99 (WiFi) and $299.99 (data-enabled). But the other side of the coin is that performance problems DO exist. Android offers a lot and it's better than ever before. However hangups and crazy UI design still happen too often. I don't know if Google has what it takes to iron this stuff out. If they do, I can't see Android becoming a consistently smooth and user-friendly OS for a couple more years. The hardware is only as good as its software.
