What should a newbie do with an iPhone?
via blog.xminds.com
I am finally meant to get my iPhone 5 tomorrow, after deciding in Apple's favor over the Lumia 920 (a lack of Apps I'd use) and the Nexus 4 (not worth the wait and price in Finland). The fact that my previous smartphone was a Nokia X6 might explain my question a little bit. Therefor, my real issue is that what should (or could) I do with it. With every iOS version coming with the trademark "200+ New Features", and with an ecosystem so big that I will never explore it completely, I would love some tips on where to begin.
I have already explored some of my key interests on the App store, but since I have no way to test any apps at the moment, personal experiences are welcome. For example, as a guitarist, I would like to hear if the Apps like Guitar Pro, AmpliTube or UG Tabs are worth it, or if there are any better alternatives. Other fields of interest I have are sciences, since I am a student at the moment, photography and video (I am not too fond of Social Media Apps like Instagram, I want material for personal use rather), and anything that might make my life easier (and not make my credit card lighter =)).
I am currently using a 2008 iMac, still running on OS X 10.5.8. I am not sure but I have a suspicion that some iOS features only work with later versions of OS X. If this is the case, I would like to hear wether it be advisable to update my iMac to a later version of OS X for those features.
Also, a heads up on useful hidden features of iOS would be appreciated. I love discovering new things on my gadgets, but I think iOS 7 is meant for that.
I would love to hear from you as soon as possible, and thank for any advice or opinions in advance.
UPDATE: Seems like I forgot to ask for the nano-sim when I picked up the phone, so I will have to wait till tomorrow to activate it... =(
