Is iPhone 5 worth as a long term device ?

My dad wants to get an iPhone 5 64 GB , but is it worth as a long term ? He is currently using Galaxy S2.
Does it suffer from chipping (scuffing) issues badly ? How is the performance , do you find lot of difference from 4S or somewhat same ? (i mean the phone performance after loading all data like 50 GB or 40 GB)
How is the battery life ? I heard some people having issues with battery , how is the real life battery life having settings normally like notifications on , default brightness etc. ?
I am familiar with iOS as we have an iPad 3 in home.
