Is Google committed to the Qi standard?

It's almost 2013 and there's been no word about when the first party charging orb might come out. Given that Google is also backing Powermat it seems that Qi might only be in this phone because of LG. Plus the Nexus 4 doesn't (apparently) work well with all Qi chargers, which will surely cause Google to think less of the standard. How committed to the Qi standard do you think they are?
Hypothetically, if the orb does come out, but Google doesn't seem to be all in with Qi, will you still get one?
I don't think I would, wireless charging is only useful IMO if its a universal standard. Having a charging orb that won't work with the Nexus 5 or any other future phones would be lame - Palm Touchstone lame.
