Question for the Canadian - American's About Roaming

In the spirit of this post:

I have an unlocked iPhone 5 on Verizon, and am going up to Canada for the holidays. I wanted to buy a Wind Mobile sim card to stick in my phone while I'm up there, but I can't find any information on if it will work. This is a two part question.

1. Can I cut a regular Wind Mobile sim card down to a nano sim that will work in an iPhone 5?
2. Will the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5 work on Wind Mobile?

Now I know I won't get LTE, or even 3G. I'm not crazy here, I just don't want to pay some insane amount of money to make and receive a few calls while I'm in Canada this year.
Any help?
