3DS: to XL or not?

So,

I am coming out of a 3 year stint in the Peace Corps in Central Asia. 3 years in which I watched both the 3DS and Wii U launches go by without me *__*

Now, with my service's end date looming and the readjustment allowance check getting closer and closer, the real question i am faced with is this:

Should I get a 3DS or 3DS XL?

What do you guys recommend?
