One of four surviving copies of an original poster for the movie Metropolis will be up for grabs in an upcoming bankruptcy auction. According to Reuters, the Metropolis poster — along with posters for King Kong, Invisible Man, and six other classic films — will be sold for at least $700,000 at a Los Angeles court auction on December 13th. The poster for Fritz Lang's highly regarded silent film about a dystopian future was last purchased in 2005 for $690,000 alone, but, ironically, the owner filed for bankruptcy after being unable to repay loans that were used to buy film memorabilia. Bids from potential buyers are already reaching as high as $735,000, which should help the previous owner bounce back from his $1 million bankruptcy filing. For those who don't have the funds to put in a competitive bid, another copy of the Metropolis poster can be found at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
