HP's issuing a voluntary recall for its 1040 and 1050 fax machines as a result of at least seven reports of the devices overheating and catching fire. There's been no serious damage to life or limb, but there's at least one instance of significant property damage reported, and also a minor burn to a user's finger. HP says there's about 928,000 of the at-risk fax machines in the US and 240,000 in Canada and Mexico, and that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled machines and disconnect them from electrical outlets.
